Goblin

Language: Ukrainian

Goblins are a race of small and numerous humanoids common throughout the lands, often living in underground caverns near the surface known as lairs. The race is often, though not always, dominated by other Greenskins, most commonly Orcs and Hobgoblins

Physical Characteristics

Goblins are small humanoids that many consider little more than a nuisance. They have flat faces, broad noses, pointed ears, and small, sharp fangs. Their foreheads slope back, and their eyes vary in color from red to yellow. Their skin colour is primarily green in tone, but can range from yellow through any shade of orange to a deep red; usually all members of the same tribe share the same coloured skin.

Goblins breed at an extremely rapid rate compared with many other races, accounting for their large population.

Psychology

Goblins, like other greenskins, have a commonly short temper. Though goblins have a poor reputation overall, not all goblins are dim-witted or evil. The natural small stature of the Goblin has led the race as a whole to be devious and cunning. Unable to physically over power prey, Goblins will often use traps, alchemy and deception to gain the upper hand.

Unlike Orcs, who value combat as a way to prove who the strongest is, Goblin combat is an opportunity to prove who is the smartest and strongest.

Society

Goblin society is tribal by nature. Goblin leaders are generally the strongest and smartest around. Goblins have little concept of privacy, living and sleeping in large common areas; only the leaders live separately in their own private chambers. As such, goblin lairs are often stinking or soiled, though easily defended when under assault. Many such lairs are layered with simple traps for such purposes.

Goblins survive by raiding and stealing, sneaking into lairs, villages, and even towns by night to take what they can. They are not above waylaying travelers on the road or in forests and stripping them of all possessions, including the clothes on their backs. Goblins capture slaves whenever possible to perform hard labor in the tribes’ lair or camp.

Goblin tribes rarely merge or band together. The instinctive maliciousness of the Goblins inevitably would lead to conflict being prolonged and drawn out. As such, Goblin territories are guarded and well known by tribes. Conquering a neighbouring tribe and assimilating the female survivors has been known to happen.

When advantageous to the tribe, Goblins will live alongside other larger Greenskins. It is recognized by many of the races that their natural deviousness is a good counter to other races bullheadedness and violence. They are often considered to be second class however, due to their smaller size and physical failings. In reality though, a bigger greenskin is often manipulated by the Goblin leader and becomes a valuable aide.

Combat

Being suppressed through history by bigger, stronger creatures has let to goblins instinctively exploiting the two main advantages they have: overwhelming numbers and malicious ingenuity. They favour ambushes, traps, dirty tricks and any other edge they can devise. There is no such thing as a fair fight in the eyes of a Goblin.

Goblins prefer to fight battles where the odds are in their favor and often flee or surrender when obviously outmatched
